Cowes Radio 2017 - who will be Dick Johnson's replacement?
The much-loved station will be back for it's 32nd continuous year of operation at Cowes Week, the World's premier regatta. Last year's final sign-off from Dick Johnson on air was an emotional one for not only Dick and the team but all the supporters and competitors who cheered and waved Dick as he headed back into the Medina for the last time. At the overall prizegiving Dick received the Spirit of Cowes award from Chris Russell to a standing ovation from the hundreds of competitors leaving Dick literally speechless; tearful and unable to utter a word. A fine send-off for the Murray Walker of sailing, who will be sorely missed on air and by the many thousands of listeners around the world. Now the mystery is who can step into those so-well worn boat shoes?
Cowes Radio provides live, continuous on the water commentary of sailing, giving minute-by-minute information to competitors, spectators and regatta followers, live from our fully instrumented commentary boat, and direct from our race experienced commentators on water and ashore on the starting platform of the Royal Yacht Squadron.
